Travel safety

Your safety is our priority. All our partners meet local and national safety standards as a minimum condition for working with us, and we encourage them to improve them where needed.

We want you to build your own Dream Route of friendships, moments and images that stay with you forever. Travelling means experiencing a different way of life, which can also mean different safety and hygiene standards. Use common sense and follow the guidance of your tour leader, local representative or guide.

A few important tips

  • Check health advice for your destination with your doctor or at wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel.
  • Keep your passport safe and carry a photocopy.
  • Follow the cabin crew's safety instructions.
  • On long flights drink plenty of water and move around the cabin now and then.
  • Always wear a seatbelt where available, and stay seated while the bus is moving.
  • In some countries traffic drives on the other side and vehicles don't stop at crossings: look both ways.
  • Avoid undercooked food (except fruit and vegetables) and, where tap water isn't safe, drink only sealed bottled water.
  • Avoid poorly lit areas and situations that feel uncomfortable, and don't carry much cash.
  • Use high-SPF sunscreen, drink plenty of water and get out of the sun at the first sign of burning.
  • For activities outside our programme (e.g. diving), make sure the provider is insured and has good safety standards.
